I never understand why its so rare for people to give a patient
awaiting films, or CT, or a UGI Series or whatever a simple blanket.
Imaging areas are just nasty cold if all you have to wear is a little patient
gown and no socks. Give those patients blankets.

As for the nurses on med-surg floors, most of them are rounding
on eight-ten patients at any given time during their shift, so, you have to
factor that in.

As for the Anesthesiologist that was slamming stuff around....procedural
medicine is often an exercise in suppressed frustration and a lot of people
opt to take it out on the furniture...on one occasion, I was assisting a guy
that actually threw a Deaver retractor at a Circulating Nurse ( I think he
considered her another piece of annoying furniture in that moment )
during a 3 hour procedure, shattering the OR window, so....sounds
like your guy was fairly calm in comparison if not wholly serene.

The Rectal...if its a GI Bleed, someone is always going to do a Rectal
at some point close upon admission. If they dont do the Rectal, they're
going to miss the people with polyps, prolapses, foreign objects stuffed
into their anus, rectal tears, etc. So, its a very democratic kind of thing.
Sadly, you dont always get someone with slender fingers. As a Resident,
if they found out that I skipped the Rectal on a patient, I was in for the
standard " WTF do you think you're trying to do here, moron ? Kill people
for free ? " verbal abuse routine from my Chief and the Attendings so...
you can generally expect to get probed with every admission. Guiacs
are'nt going to cut it.

Still...agreed...its a major pain to find yourself on the receiving end.

I have a theory about night nurses. They all seem a bit disturbed. That's why I like them best. Well, that and they usually have better food than the day nurses. Seriously, I'm intrigued. Let's get on with the rest of the story!

Seriously, it takes most of us several hospitalizations to get that much going badly. And I'm so totally with ya on the night nurses. A friend's wife said she was on the night shift and said she always would be BECAUSE IT'S LESS WORK. I had a nightmare of a night nurse when I was in labor. You could tell she was really used to doing next to nothing.

Sorry for all you went through, but you are most definitely telling an entertaining story. I guess that's something! Also, clearly you survived, so that's the best part.
